This spring semester the Arts Administration Program hosted a symposium on “Community Engagement and Development Through the Arts” featuring current Chairperson of the National Endowment for the Arts, Dr. Jane Chu. The symposium was held on March 7, 2015 at the IUPUI Herron School of Art + Design in Indianapolis. Professors Michael Rushton and Joanna Woronkowicz moderated the symposium which revolved around two main inquiries: the role of arts organizations in community engagement, and the role of arts funders.
In addition to Chairperson Jane Chu, several leaders of community arts organizations discussed their work and participated as panelists. Panelists included:
Laura Zabel, Executive Director, Springboard for the Arts (St. Paul, MN)
Joan Squires, President, Omaha Performing Arts (Omaha, NE)
Jennifer Cole, Executive Director, Metro Nashville Arts Commission (Nashville, TN)
Karen Gahl-Mills, Executive Director, Cuyahoga Arts and Culture (Cleveland, OH)
