SPEA Global Fest is an annual school-wide event that celebrates the diversity and global experiences of the SPEA community! Global Fest is a night of food, performance, education, and fun from around the world that is 100% organized by students. For several years, the planning of the event has been a practicum opportunity for MAAA students, which means the event is largely facilitated by MAAA students. This year the planning committee was comprised of eight MAAA students as well as the SPEA VISCs (Volunteer and International Student Coordinators) split into several committees–Marketing, Logistics, Catering, Entertainment, Budget, and Communications. Students coordinated all aspects of the event–from deciding the location/catering to designing the event logo and marketing materials, liaising with different campus groups, and booking entertainment for the event. The event took place in the IMU Solarium in early March and generated a large turnout of SPEA students and faculty.
New ideas implemented by this year’s planning committee included: a Chinese Lantern Festival craft table; an interactive map project that visualized the global reach of SPEA students; exclusive, MAAA student-designed t-shirts given out to the first 100 people who arrived; trivia questions (and accompanying prizes) relating to the different areas/cultures/student orgs represented by tablers.
Below are some photos from the event–more coverage of the event can be found under the hashtag: #SPEAglobalfest on Twitter.
